Be clever, play smart, and pickup craps the ideal way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves date all the way back to the Crusades, but current craps is just about 100 years old. Modern craps formed from the ancient Anglo game called Hazard. No one knows for sure the beginnings of the game, although Hazard is said to have been created by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It is believed that Sir William’s knights enjoyed Hazard during a siege on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was acquired from the fortress’s name.

Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when exiled by the British, the French headed south and settled in southern Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they took their favored game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns adjusted the name to craps, which is gotten from the term for the losing throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi barges and throughout the country. A few acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In 1907, Winn assembled the current craps setup. He appended the Do not Pass line so players can wager on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he invented the boxes for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
